A Tribute to Walter Clarke 1935 - 2005.

Walter taught many to sail. He was well liked and considered a gentleman to all who met him. Born in Belfast Ireland, he and his wife Charlotte

He lived in the Bahamas prior to settling in Squamish with their son Charles. Walter had a passion for sailing and competed in any races he could. He was in the Fastnet,Vic- Maui 2000, Swiftsure countless times and the local SOAR 25 years in a row, missing it once to race Swiftsure.

From Charles Clarke:

"Dad participated in the Fastnet in 1973 or 1974. He crewed for Harold Cudmore. Story goes that on the way back to England during that storm dad was in the cabin trying to sleep. The boat got hit broad side by a big wave. I don't know if the boat rolled or just went over so far that dad found himself on the ceiling of the cabin with water coming through the entrance".
